How to Split PDF

Whether you need to extract a single chapter from a report, isolate a specific invoice, or divide a large document into equal parts, ZimaPDF's Split tool handles it all — privately in your browser with no file upload required.

1

Select the PDF file

Drop your document into the upload box or click to browse your device. The file is loaded entirely in your browser's memory and never sent to any server.

2

Choose your splitting method

Visually click individual page thumbnails to select exactly which pages to extract, type a page range like '1-5, 8, 10-12', or break the document into equal chunks of N pages automatically.

3

Run Split & Download

Click the Split button. You'll get either a single extracted PDF or a ZIP archive containing all the split parts, depending on how many sections were created. Everything runs locally — instant and private.

Why use ZimaPDF for split pdf?

Extract Any Page or Range

Cherry-pick individual pages or define precise page ranges. Need pages 1–3 and 7? Just specify it. No desktop software needed.

Visual Page Picker

Browse thumbnail previews of every page and click to select exactly what you want to keep. It's far faster than typing page numbers when you need to scan for specific content.

Split Into Equal Chunks

Automatically divide a long document into equal sections of a fixed page count — useful for preparing handouts, dividing a book by chapter count, or meeting email attachment limits.

No Upload, Fully Private

Your document is processed entirely inside your browser. No third party ever sees your file, making it safe for confidential contracts, medical records, and financial reports.

Frequently asked questions

Is splitting done locally without uploading?

Yes. The entire split operation runs in your browser using client-side JavaScript. Your PDF files are never uploaded to any server at any point.

Can I extract specific page ranges?

Yes. You can specify precise page ranges such as '1-4, 6, 9-12' to extract exactly the pages you need as a separate PDF file.

Will bookmarks and links be preserved after splitting?

Internal page links within the extracted pages are generally preserved. However, bookmarks (outlines) that point to pages outside the extracted range will no longer resolve correctly in the output file.

Can I split a PDF into many single-page files?

Yes. Use the 'Split into chunks of 1 page' option to get every page as its own individual PDF. The resulting files will be packaged in a ZIP archive for easy download.

What is the maximum PDF size I can split?

There is no artificial file size limit. Because processing runs locally on your device, the practical limit is your available RAM. Most modern devices can comfortably handle PDFs of several hundred megabytes.

Can I split a password-protected PDF?

The PDF must be unlocked before it can be split. If your PDF is password-protected, use the ZimaPDF Protect tool first to remove the password, then return to split it.
